Horse Trails is one of the “hard-core” surf spots along Cape Town’s west coast. It always picks up more swell than its neighbours. Fast fun when small, a bit on the gnarly side for the average surfer girl when big. |

The closest place for coffee is Big Bay. You can even park your car there and walk to Horse trails. If you prefer to drive you will see cars parked along the road to Melkbos and a little wooden walkway will point you in the right direction. Keep to the walkway – it is for preserving the dunes. There are no signs, but you can see the wave from the road. |

The vibe here is very local. Be nice. Wear your waterproof mascara. |

This spot deserves 2 stars as it is a good punchy wave option when scratching for waves on a small day. |
