Intermediate surf spots Cape Town – Sandy Bay

This spot is small and surfable when other spots are maxed out. When the big wave crew paddles out at Sunset, Windguru charts show over 4 m ocean swell and the wind is south easterly this spot might be worth checking. The wave is a gnarly little barrel on the right of the bay (looking out to sea). Nice wave to practice a fast take-off.  Best if you’re a bodyboarder.
Sandy Bay is a lovely spot to hang out for the day, surf a little, sleep a little, climb around on the boulders, take a picnic. But it is a long mission – either from Llandudno or from Hout Bay. And watch out for muggers if you go over the dunes from Hout Bay.

This spot deserves  a star for being so beautiful rather than for the quality of the wave.
